Caleuche II, an introduction

She is a Bruce Roberts 34 design, a very solid, strong and stable sailing yacht called Caleuche II. The  hull was molded in 1979 and remained unused and unfinished  until now. So in this blog  I will tell you  the details  of the process of setting up this sailboat  that is new  but never been  in the water before.

We have been working at the boat  for about four years, but I am in the process of finally finishing it. So, soon  we will see the  CaleucheII on  the water, despite some stops by the lack of money. Nonetheless, with great enthusiasm I am immersed in this process in which I feel that I learn a lot every day. For this work I have the help of Mr. Jose Leon, an expert in fiberglass work and Mr. Uchuya in charge of the stainless steel works.
And I think that every sailboat  to some degree is in perpetual state of change  like a living organism. There are little tweaks to be had everywhere and constantly getting feedback and constantly  improving the  sailboat. Is a living process and this is the beauty of them.

The hull is solidly  constructed with a fully encapsulated  keel with a rudder protected by skeg configuration.
This sailboat is sturdy constructed with C-Flex fiberglass which is  a sheeting material made up of rods and fiberglass reinforced plastic alternating with bundles of unsaturated  fiberglass roving, the whole together by two layers of lightweight  open weave  fiberglass cloth.

The Roberts 34 has a history of long distance  sailing such as crossings in  the Roaring Forties and in the Antarctic area. This was  the sailboat design chosen by Les Powles  to sail around the world three times  single-handed. Also, another sailor named Jon Tucker  used another  Roberts 34  called Snow Petrel to sail to  east  Antarctica.
