A collision bulkhead is a vertical bulkhead extending from the bottom of the hull to the underside of the deck. We make it 100% watertight and will help contain seawater in case of damage to the bow area. Also, this bulkhead has no door to the chain locker from inside, all access to the forward locker is from the deck only.
In the space under the forward bunks we put two extra half bulkheads to strengthen this area and sealed above the waterline level and installed two round watertight plates that serves for inspection.
Since damage to sailboats most often occur in the bow and forward areas, a forward watertight compartment can be punctured resulting from collisions, and the boat will continue to float as the water is retained behind the two half bulkhead supporting the "V" berth. The water should be contained in this section and it did not slop over into the rest of the boat.
Another possible option in this area under the forward bunk is to fill it with close cell expanded foam, maybe I will do this in the future.
